0.4.0 - Multiplayer Support Released
We just added multiplayer support to The Fertile Crescent. Download the latest build and challenge a friend or foe!
We can still remember witnessing Age of Empires 1 being played over LAN for the first time, back in the late 90s. It was magic. Being able to upload an RTS game with multiplayer support is a great achievement for us and a homage to that memory.
We've been playing multiplayer games for weeks. Even though The Fertile Crescent is still in early development, we have done our best to squeeze out every bug we could find. Hopefully you will get a good experience playing this build from day one!
To begin with you can play 1on1 games. More options will be added in later builds.
We use dedicated servers in three regions at the moment: Australia, Europe and America.

We wrote more about this in our previous update, but this update also adds some sound, music, minimap and numerous improvements and bug fixes. For the whole list see below this article!

Multiplayer
- Pick user name
- Create or join room
- See list of available rooms in lobby
- Join room with 1vs1 map settings and room chat
- Everyone must click ready for host to be able to start the game
- In-game chat
- Client-server model with host migration
- Lockstep and fixed-point Maths so the game is deterministic on all clients
- Flexible command turn length based on user pings
Music
- Added original in-game music
Sound
- Added 'you are under attack' sound
- Added unit selection sounds
- Added unit move to sounds
- Added select building sounds
- Added chat message sound
- Added sounds for researching technology and technology researched
- Added warning sounds for starvation and ending starvation
- Added general button sounds
- Added trained Villager and trained military unit sounds
- Added chop and mine sounds
- Added victory and lost sounds (multiplayer only)
- Added placed building sound
- Added finished constructing building sound
Minimap
- Added minimap that shows tiles and their fertilty level, resourcs, units and buildings
- Click and drag on minimap to move camera
- Notification shows on minimap location when being under attack
Resource gathering
- If harvested resource is depleted and Villager can carry more then Villager will seek nearby resources first, instead of going straight back to delivery point
General improvements
- Can press ESCAPE to open pause menu
- Can press ESCAPE to close pause menu and resume game
- Attack indicator follows unit clicked on for its duration
- Easier to select enemy unit to attack it when your units are piled up around it
- Units detect enemy units quicker
- Game Over if your Tribe Unit dies
- Small map has been increased from 70x70 tiles to 80x80
- Mouse cursor is now confined to game screen when using multiple screens
- Improved code for units reaching their targets
- The game is not optimized for 1384x768 resolution screens but it is now playable (UI elements don't overflow)
Scout
- New unit!
- Fast movement speed, long vision range, not better than Villager at combat
- Your Tribe now starts with Scout instead of Slinger
- Train more Scouts at Tribe Center
Slinger
- Attack speed reduced from 1s to 2s
- Attack damage per hit increased from 7hp to 12hp (but reduced from 7dps to 6dps)
- Improved Slinger Attack Animation
- Move speed reduced from 8 to 7
- Aattack range decreased from 22 to 20
- Vision ranged decreased from 24 to 22
Other Balance Changes
- Javelin Throwers now cost 35 wood, up from 25 wood
- Archers now cost 25 wood and 15 wealth, down from 35 wood and 15 wealth
- Spearman move speed increased from 2 to 3
Bug fixes
- Clicking on your own building and then on enemy building correctly hides all info about your building and rally point indicator
- Fixed toggle inactive villagers button
- Holding over a production building while pressing 'T' to open Tech Tree now correctly hides the production tooltip
- Fixed case where certain tooltips would still show even if building got deselected
- Scrollbar for scroll speed now shows correct value when jumping between menu and game
- Fixed a bug where a Villager would still be visible through Fog of War
- Can now select multiple units while Tribe unit moves to placed Tribe Center
- Villagers always face the object they reach now
- Units always face the unit they are attacking now
