0.4.4C - Multiplayer Quick Fixes

2018 was a great year for us and TFC. Thanks for all your great encouragement and feedback.

This is a small 'quick-fix update' mainly for multiplayer games. Right now group movement can cause hiccups. This is something we have to address properly soon, but some players requested that we upload a quick-fix to reduce the lag for now.

Yet Another Pathfinding Challenge

You might have read our blog on pathfinding optimisations just a few months ago. It turns out these weren't enough. Introducing squad behaviour in a recent patch caused new challenges that we recently discovered, and it's crucial that we fix these before we do anything else. A lot of our planned functionality and content depends on this, like large map sizes with more players and team games.

Unfortunately, January will be an unusually busy month for us with our paid jobs, so we don't know when we're able to implement the new pathfinding algorithm. We also want to focus on writing an application for funding first since this would allow us to take more time off work to develop TFC.

Nevertheless, we do have big plans for 2019.  When this issue is fixed, we will focus on a lot of new exciting content!

Change Log 0.4.4C

Improvements
- Units wait slightly longer to find a new path if another unit blocks the current path (improves performance)
- Can no longer place buildings on unexplored tiles

Balance Changes
- Bowman hitpoints increased to 145 (from 135)
- Clay required to construct Barracks reduced to 100 (from 120)

Multiplayer Quick Fixes
- Reduced map size to 80x80 (from 90x90)
- Reduced number of units you can select to 18 (from 22)
